Elodie, name signification and origin

Etymology

From Greek elodiê, “marshy white blossom”, or from latin alodis, “free ground”. Some say it comes from Spanish Elodia, which is “derived from the Gothic elements ali “other, foreign” and od “riches, wealth”.

History   

Spanish martyr from 9th century, Saint Elodie was born from a mixt marriage (christian mother and muslim father) in a fortuned family. Elodie and her sister Nunilon have adopted the faith of their mother.
